60,000 New Homes Planned For SCV

More than 60,000 new homes will be added to the Santa Clarita Valley over the next 20 years, skirting the boundaries of the city but straining its services...

That was the word Tuesday evening from county planners who met with Santa Clarita city officials. And the response was not one of happiness.
The sheer volume of proposed construction drew the ire of City Council members. But the piecemeal nature of the developments, with a seeming lack of oversight for roads, regional parks, schools, hospitals, fire and sheriff’s stations and jails, were a concern.
“I saw new projects, but no new roads,” Councilwoman Laurene Weste said. “You’re in a valley, with one way in, one way out. Just you wait till the next earthquake. You’ll find out.”
A map presented by county planners showed major projects on the west side of the valley between Interstate 5 and the Ventura County line, large expansions in Tesoro del Valle, expansions in Fair Oaks Ranch, and the Golden Valley Ranch and Skyline Ranch proposals in Canyon Country. Los Lomas in the Newhall Pass, which the city has fought, also appears on the plans.
