12 Candidates File for Election
The filing period has ended, and the race to fill three seats on the Santa Clarita City Council this spring has moved to the next level. As of 4:53 p.m. Friday — the deadline was 5 p.m. — 12 residents, including the three incumbents, had filed paperwork declaring their candidacy for the council, according to the City Clerk’s office. Mayor Laurene Weste and council members Frank Ferry and Marsha McLean are wrapping up their four-year terms. Ferry is likely the only candidate who is already done fund raising, having raised nearly $100,000 last summer. The election will be held April 11, and the elected council members will be sworn into office April 25.
The incumbents are up against competition that includes a Los Angeles paralegal, a local environmentalist, law enforcement officials and a college student.
