Community Support Of Summer Food Drive Resulted In Thousands Of Meals For Local Families

The City of Santa Clarita is proud to share that the food collected this past August as part of the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry’s Summer Food Drive provided approximately 2,089 meals for Santa Clarita families.

“On behalf of the Santa Clarita City Council, I want to extend a big thank you to everyone in the community who participated in the summer food drive,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “As a result of all the generous donations and food received, we are one step closer to alleviating hunger in our community.”

This year marks the fifth year the City of Santa Clarita partnered with the SCV Food Pantry for a summer food drive.  Food items were collected at eight City facilities, including: City Hall, Santa Clarita Sports Complex, Transit Maintenance Facility, Central Park, the City’s Corporate Yard, and the Newhall, Valencia and Jo Anne Darcy Library in Canyon Country.  The Drive helps the Food Pantry meet the needs of families during the challenging summer months and stocks the shelves for the demanding back to school season.

The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry has been distributing food to low-income residents of the Santa Clarita Valley since 1986.  The Food Pantry relies on donations from the community to provide supplemental food on a short-term basis to qualified, local residents.
