City/Cemex Truce Extended

Wednesday morning, the city of Santa Clarita extended their truce with the Cemex Mega Mine for another six months.

The City had been opposing the mine’s development off of Soledad Canyon road, as it posed significant quality of life impairments for residents in the Canyon Country area.

The City first entered the truce with Cemex in February in an effort to bring both sides back to the negotiating table to try and find a mutually acceptable solution.

In a prepared statement, Mayor Bob Kellar wrote: “I am pleased that the extension for the Principles for Cooperation has been extended. This will allow us time to finish what we’ve been working on for the last year with regard to a solution for this issue.”

Congressman Buck McKeon also weighed in, saying that he was happy to see the truce extended and that it is "an excellent indication that both sides are still hopeful a solution can be reached and are committed to continuing the process."
