City Holds Up Under Water Pressure
Public works projects pay off with little or no flooding problems.
Although the San Fernando Valley was pounded with mudslides and road closures during this week's downpour, the city of Santa Clarita fared well, with no road closures within the city due to flooding.
Years of public works projects completed by both the county and the City of Santa Clarita have paid off, according to city spokesperson Gail Ortiz, who said that she remembers when the same amount of rain would have caused significant problems for city residents.
With city and fire officials paying close attention and sandbagging around hillsides and areas burned in October's wildfires, Ortiz said that there have been no reports of flooding or further property damage from the storm.
