City Council Welcomes Ender, Kellar
TimBen Boydston steps down, while Laurie Ender and Bob Kellar are sworn in as councilmembers.
Showered with flowers and gifts, TimBen Boydston had his last day as a councilmember today. Boydston, who took Assemblyman Cameron Smyth’s seat, served on the city council for 16 months. “It’s been a great honor to serve Santa Clarita. When I was given this opportunity, it was such a surprise, I never thought I would be sitting here right now.”
Boydston was praised by both his fellow councilmembers and many residents. Councilmember Marsha McLean told Boydston she admired him for his work on the council. “You care so much, and you ask questions that the residents would ask, and you get the answers they want, and I admire you for that. Thank you so much, you’ve been fantastic.”
After receiving a standing ovation, Boydston said his final words. “After seeing the results from this election, Laurie Ender and Bob Kellar were chosen to sit on the council. 6,000 people chose Laurie, and thought she’d be the best choice for the council. And remember, you do not work for the council, you work for the people.”
Surrounded by her family, Laurie Ender then took the oath of office. “I can’t describe how honored I am to be here today. I realize the incredible responsibility and do not take this task lightly,” she said.
She said she plans to work to create more jobs, provide affordable housing, and healthcare options for residents. She also thanked her family and friends for supporting her while she ran for office.
Following Ender, Bob Kellar recited the oath of office and expressed his thanks. “I agree with Laurie, it’s a great honor to be here. I’m very proud and honored to serve you on the council.”
