City Asking For Public Input Regarding Street Name Change

Two segments of San Fernando Road may be renamed.

San Fernando Road could be renamed if Santa Clarita residents and property owners agree.  The City of Santa Clarita is asking the public to attend two community meetings scheduled for the project.  The first meeting will be held on Monday, January 7, 2008, at 5:30 p.m. in the Century Room, located on the first floor of City Hall.

A second meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Community Center Classroom located in Newhall at 22421 Market Street.

The City of Santa Clarita is considering changing the name of two remaining segments of San Fernando Road.  One segment stretches from Magic Mountain Parkway to 11th Street, and the second segment is to rename 5th Street south to State Route 14.

“The community meetings are an opportunity for affected business owners, property owners and residents along these segments of San Fernando Road to get involved and voice their concerns and comment on the project before anything changes,” commented Mayor Bob Kellar.

The City and Redevelopment Agency are implementing various aspects of the Downtown Newhall Specific Plan, which was adopted in December of 2005, and calls for changing the street name of San Fernando Road and providing continuity with any proposed street name changes.

On September 11, 2007, Santa Clarita City Council voted to change San Fernando Road to Main Street for the roadway between 5th Street and Lyons Avenue.  For more information, you can contact Alex Hernandez or Chris Price at (661) 255-4330.
