Canyon Country Post Office Victim Of Weekend Break-In
Unknown what was taken, inspectors on scene now.
Thieves broke into the Canyon Country Post Office some time between 5 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and took an undisclosed amount of stamps and merchandise.
The office, located at 18336 Soledad Canyon Road, remained closed on Tuesday, but is scheduled to reopen for normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Postal Inspector Renee Focht, there is no indication that the suspects took letter mail, but said it would be hard to tell exactly what was missing. She said they did open some parcels in the building, looking for merchandise.
"The suspects may try to sell the stamps for less than face value," Focht said.
Burglary of a post office is a federal crime, punishable by a fine and imprisonment of no more than five years. Focht said that there is a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call postal inspectors at (626) 405-1200 or toll-free (877) 876-2455, option 2.
