Child & Family Center will present a special panel presentation  “Coping with Tragedy: “Helping your Children Process and Cope with Disturbing Events”, to help the Santa Clarita community better understand the tragedy that occurred in Connecticut, while providing tools to deal with traumatic events. The presentation is free.  The panel will feature experienced staff members at the Center who have dealt with trauma and have helped kids who suffer from mental health issues.  “The panelists will help parents and educators identify certain precursors that can lead to serious problems. There are some red flags that are important for everyone to be aware of.

“They say when an unborn child is developing, the first thing they hear is the heartbeat of the mother —so when babies go to powwows and hear the music, it is just natural. The drumbeat symbolizes the heartbeat of mother earth.” Bill Runsabove, Northern Cheyenne composer and singer of traditional songs. The drum is an important instrument for indigenous people of all continents, giving both rhythm and meaning to life. It provides the beat for dancers to proudly offer their thanks and praise to the Creator and Mother Earth during ceremonies. It was and still is used to help heal the sick and as a way of carrying songs and prayers to the Great Above Waken Takan. The tradition of the drum is still very important today and is a way of bringing the People together and energizing healing. This drumming circle is a Shamanic experience and brings together our community at The Healing Light Resource Center. Drumming awakens our inner spirit and will carry our prayers and affirmations into the Universe to Creator. Through drumming we can change the cadence of our mental chatter, alter the energy of our environment, journey for guidance from Spirit, meet our power animals and Spirit guides, and regain our inner peace. Bring your drum, or a percussion instrument if you have one, and a snack to share. There will be some extra drums if you do not have one. Please come join us in this joyous & healing tradition!
