Kick-off Rally - 8 a.m. Hyatt Regency Valencia

Projects begin – 9 a.m.

Location:   Activities take place at multiple non-profit agencies and schools throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

Details: Make a Difference Day is Santa Clarita’s largest day of volunteerism and part of a nationwide day of volunteer service.  Volunteer as an individual or with family, friends or co-workers.  You’ll tackle one-day, hands-on improvement projects – painting, weeding, brush clearance, building repair and more.  Last year, over 1,800 volunteers took part in projects benefitting thirty SCV schools and charitable organizations.  This October, join your neighbors in making a positive difference in our hometown!

Details: The Rubber Ducky Festival will be held Saturday, October 27, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bridgeport Park, Valencia. In addition to duck races throughout the day, the festival includes exhibitors, cool prizes, games, activities, food, entertainment, free admission and ample parking. Last year’s Rubber Ducky Regatta raised $30,000 that went directly to patient care at the non-profit organization’s three health centers. The centers are located in Newhall, Canyon Country, and Val Verde provides approximately 11,000 visits annually, with charges based on resident’s ability to pay. Details:  This free, one-hour presentation and tour of Henry Mayo's Women's Unit is a unique opportunity for expectant parents and those planning a family soon to familiarize themselves with our hospital. A nurse from our Women's Unit will take parents step-by-step through the birthing experience at our hospital, from pre-admission to discharge, answering any questions that come up, as best as she can, along the way. This presentation is followed by a firsthand tour of the unit, which includes, subject to availability, a labor and delivery room, a postpartum room, and a C-section operating room. This overview should give expectant parents a chance to experience the friendliness of our staff and their willingness to help them have the happy, secure, and relaxed birth experience that they desire. The free tour is offered on the fourth Saturday of every month from 1 to 2 p.m. Meet in the hospital lobby at 12:45 p.m., 23845 McBean Parkway, Valencia. Call (661)253-8607.

Details:  It’s that time again—time for the community Halloween event at promises fun for all ages, with an aerial and acrobat show, a Hollywood bear and tiger, a performance by Dance Studio 84, games, and, of course, trick-or-treating indoors and out.  But it’s not just about free cotton candy, popcorn, and peanuts. Admission is free. All proceeds from the evening’s dunk tank, drink sales and 10% of food sales from food vendors, Chick-fil-A, Lampost Pizza, Kona Ice and Corn Heaven will go to Carousel Ranch, a local non-profit organization offering equestrian therapy for disabled children. Ralph’s and Sprouts are donating water bottles for drink sales and Pretty Little Pictures will be photographing the entire event for free.   The Habit will also be selling food at the event.
