A suspect identified by citizens after a media alert was
arrested after staying just out of reach of the law for nearly three months.

Jonathan William Maier, 19, of Canyon Country, was spotted Wednesday
at Granary Square shopping
center in Valencia
and arrested on several felony charges.

Maier had been identified in October when a bulletin asking
for the public’s help to track down Maier in relation to a September 9 burglary
at Homeros Gift Shop on Lyons Avenue in Newhall.

Over the last few months, deputies had telephone contact
with Maier and others associated with him. During the conversations, Maier
claimed he was going to turn himself in at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s
station, but never did.

When he was seen walking with a female companion Wednesday,
both he and the girl were arrested without incident. Maier was booked at the
SCV sheriff’s station on suspicion of felon in possession of a firearm. He had
two existing warrants for felony grand theft and a misdemeanor warrant for possession
of a switchblade knife.

His female companion was arrested on suspicion of an
unrelated misdemeanor.

Detectives are investigating the extent of Maier’s
involvement in a robbery that occurred the same September day in the parking
lot of the Vallarta Market on Lyons Avenue
at Orchard Village Road. During
that incident, a woman was assaulted and her purse was stolen.

Along with the felony charges he faces in the
above-mentioned incidents, Maier is in violation of his probation and is being
held at Men’s Central Jail without bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in
court Friday.

A second man, Kevin Anthony
Voytish, of Valencia,
who was initially being sought for questioning in connection with the
case, has been cleared of any involvement.  He was also on probation
and is being held without bail pending future court
proceedings.

Anyone with additional information regarding these crimes or
the suspect should contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station at (661)
255-1121.
