Assemblyman Scott Wilk Discusses House Of Origin Deadline In Weekly Report

Assemblyman Scott Wilk gave his Weekly Update from Sacramento about the upcoming House of Origin Deadline on Wednesday, May 22.

As a so-called “freshman” in the State Assembly, Wilk has been receiving training about how the voting process takes place on bills. Every bill in the assembly must be in the Senate in order to be considered this year. There is a possibility of up to 460 pieces of legislation being presented between March 22 and 31, but it is highly unlikely that they will all be heard.

“At least 250 bills will be heard between now and then”, said Wilk.

There are currently 141 bills in the Appropriations Committee to see what is going to be voted on.

Wilk has also been working on a series of videos that will run every other week which covers proposals in Sacramento that he believes lack common sense. His goal is to bring to light all of the absurd happenings that take place in the state capital.

One such current issue is a potential bill where criminals can expunge their record for no reason at all, or earn furlough days to earn good time credit which reduces their sentence.

“It makes absolutely no sense to me,” said Wilk.

Wilk believes that common citizens would be able to figure out the state budget and education reform in 30 minutes over a cup of coffee, since “no special interests are involved.”

He also spoke about the upcoming Town Hall Meeting focused on the chloride issue. On June 15, government agencies will share their information as well as listen to public testimony in regards to the problem. Much of this information has been presented at previous meetings that were held on weekdays, which prevented many people from attending.

Wilk is looking to come up with bipartisan legislation to resolve several of the problems, but said “they are not ready to unveil anything yet.”

On a lighter note, Wilk also discussed his daughter’s upcoming wedding. He mentioned that while there is the possibility of missing her rehearsal dinner, he would not let his job interfere with the big day.
