Sheriff's Deputies Find Missing Man Dead In Pyramid Lake

Sheriff’s Department officials recovered the body of a man missing since a fatal boating incident Sunday. Officials with the Emergency Services Detail of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department resumed their search efforts Wednesday morning. Jack Thirasack, 64, of Baldwin Park, was found about 30 feet from where Rich Tanovan, 52, of West Covina, was found after a weekend boating trip.

The Master’s College selected three students as its athletes of the year.

Jacquelyn Marshall and Samantha Dougherty shared female athlete of the year honors. Steve Karkenny was selected as the male athlete of the year.

Marshall was a first team NAIA All American selection in women’s basketball. She also earned a spot on the All Golden State Athletic Conference team. She led the Lady Mustangs to the NAIA national tournament.

Newhall School District Looking At Moving Elections, Cumulative Voting

Newhall School District governing board members directed Superintendent Marc Winger to “investigate the process of initiating a change to cumulative voting and even-year elections in order to address potential concerns under the California Voting Rights Act,” an official said Tuesday. The election change was approved at the governing board’s meeting in response to the district’s monitoring of recent CVRA lawsuits in the area, according to district officials. The Newhall School District will change its elections “assuming recent settlement agreements initiating the transition to cumulative voting and even year elections are held to be legally valid,” according to officials.
