Santa Clarita and Los Angeles County received the Compass Blueprint award from the Southern California Association of Governments for their joint city-county "One Valley, One Vision" plan. The award will be presented to the city council on June 25.

Santa Clarita's unemployment rate fell 0.4 percent, from 6.1 to 5.7 percent, between March and April, according to the state Employment Development Department. City Manager Ken Striplin believes it is due to a more active local economy.

Clean up is in progress for the two vehicle accident between a big rig and an automobile on the southbound Highway 14 south of Sand Canyon, reports the California Highway Patrol.
