Lockheed Player of the Week - October 17, 2006

Congratulations, Shane Vereen of Valencia High School for being a “Player of the Week”.
Shane Vereen set a new Valencia rushing record Friday against Golden Valley High with 354 rushing yards on 14 carries.  He scored six touchdowns in the Vikings 58-7 win.  Vereen bested the previous Valencia mark, held by Manuel White, by 51 yards.

Parents Say Schools a Sitting Duck

They agree Santa Clarita Elementary's crosswalk is unsafe, needs more signage.The intersection near a Saugus school, tucked off to the side of one of the city's busiest intersections, where cars reportedly zip by at more than 50 mph even when school's in session, is worrying local residents.  See the full story in Tuesday's Signal.

City: Cemex Site Would Hurt River Species

Santa Clarita is a city renowned for it's quality of life and beautiful surroundings. The streets are well maintained, the parks are neatly groomed and exterior walls and bridges are free of graffiti…almost. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to visit Mexico on a trade mission immediately following the November 7th election, and it has come to our attention that his office was approached by CEMEX to visit its corporate offices during this trip.

Pavement Repairs at/near I-5/126 Interchange, 10/17

Caltrans will close the following lanes and connectors of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) and State Route 126, in order to perform roadway repairs:
      Tuesday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
·     Two lanes of southbound I-5 from State Route 126 to Rye Canyon Road
·     The southbound I-5 off-ramp at Rye Canyon Road
·     The eastbound and westbound State Route 126 connectors to southbound I-5
Caltrans thanks the motoring public for their patience during these roadway repairs.
