College of the Canyons Graduates 1,182 Friday, June 9

The 2006 graduating class at College of the Canyons will celebrate commencement at 6 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2006. One thousand, one hundred and eighty-two students have applied for graduation.  This is a 2.5 percent increase over last year.  The graduates consist of 702 women and 480 men.  They will assemble in the central-campus, outdoor Honor-Grove location that has become the traditional site of the graduation ceremony.

The New York Mets beat the Dodgers 9-7. Tune into KHTS on Friday at 6:30pm when the Dodgers will take on the Colorado Rockies.

Smyth Wins, Richman Loses

Results from the California Primary as of 5:13am with all precincts reporting give Republican Cameron Smyth the victory in his quest for the California State Assembly, winning with 80% of the vote. Smyth will face the Democratic candidate Lyn Shaw in the November election.

Republican Assemblyman Keith Richman lost his bid to run for State Treasurer. Richman was defeated by Claude Parrish, who received 56.1% of the vote to Richman's 43.9%. Parrish will face Democratic Candidate, Bill Lockyer.

Polling Place for Sand Canyon Voters is Now Open

To update an earlier story reported on KHTS AM-1220, Carl Goldman of KHTS, reported that the designated polling place for Sand Canyon residents, Fire Station 123, is now open and prepared for voters

Lane Closures for I-5 Carpool Lane Construction 6/6 – 6/8

Sylmar/North San Fernando Valley – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes of the Golden State Freeway (I-5), as part of a $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle, (HOV), or carpool lanes, on northbound and southbound I-5 from State Route 118 to State Route 14:
 
DAILY – TUESDAY, JUNE 6 THROUGH THURSDAY, JUNE 8:
 
·     5 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Up to two lanes of northbound I-5 from State Route 210 to State Route 14

Early Morning Voting Snafu for Sand Canyon Residents

As reported earlier today on KHTS, there has been a voting snafu involving Sand Canyon residents.
 
Carl Goldman, co-owner of KHTS AM-1220 is quoted as saying, “The County screwed up.”  The designated polling place, Fire Station 123, was not set-up and ready for voters.  Voters were being sent away without voting.
 
The latest word, Carl Goldman received from the County Registrar of Voters at 9:20am, was the polling place would open by 10am.  That is three hours after the designated polling hours.
