The LEXUS of Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series – This Friday

Hot Yoga presents the Nelsen Adelard Band - this Friday from 7pm to 9pm at The Lexus of Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series on Town Center Drive at McBean Parkway next to the Hyatt in Valencia.
 
Adelard is a 'monster talent.' He is a strong blues vocalist, as well as a talented multi-instrumentalist, at times playing guitar, harmonica, piano and trumpet. Backed by a great band, Adelard's blues are a meld of West Coast jump and Louisiana blues."

Hart District STAR Scores Increase

The California Department of Education today released results from last spring’s Standardized Testing and Reporting Program (STAR) tests, and it’s good news for students in the William S. Hart Union High School District.

23 Applicants to be Considered for Seat on Community College Board of Trustees

On Wednesday afternoon, the Santa Clarita Community College Board of Trustees released a list of applicants for a vacant board position.
 
Interviews will take place in open session starting at 3:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. August 23, 2006, for 10 minutes each, with 5 minute breaks between interviews.
 
The applicants for seat #5 are:
 
1.     Dr. Alduino A. Adelini
2.     Mr. Michael Berger
3.     Mr. Bill Broyles
4.     Ms. Sandra Bull
5.     Mr. Edward J. Carroll, Jr.

Dodgers Lose to Marlins 15 - 4

On Wednesday afternoon, the Dodgers lost to the Florida Marlins in game three of the series. The final score was 15 to 4. The Dodgers travel to San Francisco on Thursday for a three game series with the Giants to begin on Friday. Hear the game LIVE on AM-1220 KHTS beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Quail Fire 100 Percent Contained

A 4,864-acre brushfire burning since Sunday, near Gorman, was declared 100 percent contained as of 8 a.m. this morning. The Quail Fire was first reported just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Over the course of the fire, over 1,000 fire personnel battled the blaze in the air and on the ground. Cool weather conditions in the area east of the I-5 assisted firefighters in getting the upper hand on the blaze.  The fire had forced closure of northbound lanes of the Golden State freeway on the Grapevine.  It left 4,000 Edison customers without electricity for a time on Sunday.

On Tuesday night, the Dodgers continued their amazing play, beating the Florida Marlins 4-0. City’s “David vs. Goliath” Fight Against Cemex Mining Project Hits Los Angeles Freeway
In an unprecedented move this week, the City of Santa Clarita is taking its fight against the multinational corporate giant Cemex Mining Company to the streets -- in the form of a new billboard campaign.  The billboard marks the City’s hardest-hitting outreach efforts to date to prevent the sitting of the largest mining project ever to be approved by the Bureau of Land Management -- a 69 million ton mega mining project -- just one mile from the City’s eastern boundaries.
