Bands' Best To Perform

           Saturday night concert to showcase local talent. 

 

            Outstanding musicians selected by audition from music programs in junior and senior high schools across the Santa Clarita Valley will be on stage Saturday evening, March 3, for the annual Hart School District Honor Band Concert. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Hart Auditorium with the junior high school honor band, followed by the high school honor band.

Knight Gets Runners' Endorsement

Senator George Runner and Assemblywoman Sharon Runner have enthusiastically endorsed Palmdale City Councilman Steve Knight for the State Assembly seat currently held by Sharon Runner, who is vacating due to term limits.

Congratulations Malik Bradley for being “Player of the Week"

Bradley, became the first male athlete from the Santa Clarita Valley’s newest high school, West Ranch,  to be chosen first-team All-Foothill League in boys basketball.  Bradley follows behind freshman girls cross country runner Bailey Miller who became the school’s first athlete to make a first team league squad.

Council Race Adds Two Candidates

Spierer, Gutzeit will run for City Council.

ImageToday Bob Spierer held a press conference in front of City Hall to officially declare his candidacy for City Council.

 

Maria Gutzeit has also filed Candidate Intention Statement papers with the City Clerk.

 

Annexation Policy Decision Postponed

City Council will wait four months to look at new process.

ImageTuesday night’s agenda item number 9 was to look at new options for initiating the annexation process with Santa Clarita. It was unanimously postponed for a period of four months to allow for more information to come to light.

Winter Shelter Finds Its Place

A few locations approved for homeless shelter.

A committee that has been looking for potential sites for the temporary winter homeless shelter here in Santa Clarita, presented their four choices to the City Council Tuesday night, and of the locations, three were approved.

 

The locations ranged from Pitchess Detention Center to the current site on Golden Valley Road.

Antonovich Pushes For Jail Funding

 He says 285 jobs must be funded quickly.

In a letter dated February 22, 2007 to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Sheriff revealed the creation of approximately 285 unfunded post positions in the Sheriff’s Custody Operations and Correctional Services Division which was, in large part, to meet increased safety challenges and external demands from the Board of Supervisors, the Department of Justice, the American Civil Liberties Union and Special Counsel Merrick Bobb.
