Local Reps Sound Off On Governor's Budget Revision

As Governor Schwarzenegger released his May budget revision, many State Senators and Assemblyman immediately issued statements that shared their thoughts on it.

 

Below are the statements issued by our local representatives Senator George Runner, Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, and Lancaster Assemblywoman Sharon Runner, all Republicans.

Saturday's Bone Marrow Drive Waives Fees

Residents invited to join the Bone Marrow Registry.

This Saturday, Mothers Fighting For Others will be holding a Bone Marrow Drive in the Ralphs parking lot on McBean Parkway and Decoro.  

 

The drive is in memory of Trevor Kott, a little boy who passed away from AML, a rare form of Leukemia.

 

Usually, a fee of $52 is charged to join the Bone Marrow Registry; however, as a part of this drive, that fee will be waived.

 

All are welcome, and patrons are encouraged to come in groups.

 

Air Force Band Playing Free Concert Tonight

Tonight, May 15th, the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West Concert Band will take the stage of College of the Canyon’s Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm for a free concert.

Search warrant results in multiple arrests.

Personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Narcotics Bureau, the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station's Career Offenders Burglary Robbery Apprehension Team (COBRA) and the Los Angeles County Department of Probation served a search warrant in the 19300 block of Cedarcreek Street on Thursday.

Lanes Closing For Work On I-5

Caltrans issues schedule of closings.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes of the Golden State Freeway (I-5), as part of a  $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle, (HOV), or carpool lanes, on northbound and southbound I-5 from State Route 118 to State Route 14:

 

MONDAY, MAY 14 THROUGH THURSDAY, MAY 17:

 

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. – One lane of northbound I-5 from I-405 to the westbound State Route 210 connector

The event was held last week, and it offered a chance for the hospital to step back and say thank you to their employees, and to highlight different projects they are working on.

 

Sheriff's Dept. To Educate Parents

Rio Vista School event hosts two presentations by Deputies.

On Saturday, May 19th, Sheriff’s Deputies will give two presentations to parents regarding issues that effect school aged children.

 

One presentation will be made about gangs and graffiti, and the other will be about bullying and internet safety.

 

These are issues that can be detected by parents and even prevented, if parents know what to look for.
