Five Local Fires Believed To Be Arson

Fires set late Sunday night in Valencia

ImageThe Sheriff’s Department is reporting that five fires, set in the late hours of Sunday night are being investigated as arson.

The fires were all located in the area of Valencia around McBean Parkway and Arroyo Park Dr.

Congressional Art Winner 2007 will see her piece displayed in the Capitol

ImageThis June, Santa Clarita’s 2007 Congressional Art Winner, Laura Peskay will travel to Washington D.C. to see her artwork displayed alongside many other district winners.  A couple weeks ago, Laura Peskay competed in the Congressional Art Contest as part of the Citywide Art Exhibit and Exchange.

Santa Clarita ranked 3rd Safest City in California for 2006

According to the California Department of Justice, the City of Santa Clarita was the third safest city in California following Irvine and Glendale.  Santa Clarita experienced a 5.7 percent increase in its population for 2006, but violent and property crimes in the City dropped 4.6 percent over the previous year.   in 2006 for cities with a population of 150,000 or more, following

Fire At Convalescent Home On San Fernando Road

No injuries, but traffic on San Fernando Road backed up

A fire broke out in the attic at a convalescent home on San Fernando Road just before 2:00 this afternoon.

92 patients were evacuated from the building, and no injuries were reported.

Fire Crews made quick work of the fire; however they are determining whether or not the building is safe to enter.

Fire Department vehicles are not presently blocking any lanes; however traffic is moving very slowly in the area of San Fernando Road and Carl Ct.

On May 16th, Sulphur Springs Community School 6th graders showcased their musical talent live on KHTS AM-1220.

Renowned Scholarship Given To Local Student

Dustin Walker receives Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship.

Many may remember the name Jack Kent Cooke from his days when he owned the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Redskins.

A very successful man, Cooke was an avid promoter of education as a life long pursuit. Although his dreams of attaining a higher education were put on hold by his need to work full time during the depression, education was always something he believed in strongly.
