McKeon Honored for Record on Pro-Growth, Pro-Job Issues

Lockheed Player of the Week - October 3, 2006

Congratulations, J.J. DiLuigi of Canyon High School for being a “Player of the Week”.
Cowboys running back DiLuigi had a superb game against Chaminade last Friday, 49-32.  The senior ran the ball 33 times for 282 yards and caught two balls for 25 yards.  He had four touchdowns, all rughins.

Huge Power Outage Affects Over 100,000 Homes And Businesses

At approximately 3:00pm a Southern California Edison transformer blew out at the I-5 and Highway 14 split.  The blown transformer caused a massive power outage in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The power outage affected over 130,000 homes and businesses.  This also took out many traffic lights at some of the busiest intersections in the valley causing massive traffic jams.  At approximately 5:00pm power was out in 22,500 households and businesses primarily in the Newhall area.

County Officials Promote Eating of Breakfast

With 22% of students in Los Angeles County considered overweight, the Department of Public Health has a simple solution:  Eat breakfast!The county's conducting a campaign to promote the benefits of healthy breakfasts to deter obesity in young children.  Get the whole story in Monday's Signal.

Antonovich Motion Increases Treatment Resources for Homeless Mentally Ill

Passed unanimously by the Board of Supervisors, a motion by Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich allocates nearly $5 million dollars for a pilot program increasing transitional treatment services for homeless mentally ill released from hospitals, jails or courts.
 
"Long-term solutions and effective treatment will help replace a broken system of warehousing without healing," said Antonovich.  "This requires a systematic approach to assist chronically homeless transition directly into permanent, service-linked independent living arrangements,"

I-5 Lane Closure 10/2 – 10/6

Caltrans will close the one lane of the southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) from Templin Highway to Lake Hughes Road, as follows, in order to perform guardrail repair:
 
·     Daily beginning Monday, October 2 through Friday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 
This closure is weather-permitting and subject to change.  Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation during these repairs. Caltrans reminds motorists to PLEASE, SLOW FOR THE CONE ZONE.
