    L.A. County Fire Lands in Canyon Country

    The L.A. County Fiire Department was dispatched to Canyon Country late Friday night. At about 10:30 pm, the department landed a rescue helicopter on the grounds of Sierra Vista Jr. High to transport a 4 year old seizure victim to Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.


    The condition of the child was not released.


    Antonivich Opposes Annexation

    The City of Santa Clarita has attemtped to annex the Valencia Commerce Center and property in Lyon Canyon, which has stirred controversy....

    On Thursday, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich announced his opposition to the city's annexation attempt, as the proposed development would be much more dense than county regulations allow.  Apparently, this would put the project in direct conflict with the cooperative planning process between the county of Los Angeles and the city of Santa Clarita.

    Authorities to Set Up Sobriety Checkpoint

    Tonight, Friday, local Sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers will set up a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in the Santa Clarita Valley....

    Sobriety checkpoints are utilized as a method of deterring citizens from drinking and driving, and as a means to apprehend those who still continue to drive under the influence. 


    We ask that you please be responsible and give the keys to someone else if you decide to drink throughout the holiday season.


     

    Tommy Hawkins Returns To Dodger Radio Network


    LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Dodgers Vice President, External Affairs Tommy Hawkins has chosen an “active retirement” after 18 years with the organization, leaving his executive post to join the Dodger broadcast team as well as continuing to work on special projects, the Dodgers announced today.

    Fatal Accident on Sierra Highway

    At about 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, a utility trailer came unhitched from a Chevy Suburban, causing an oncoming Expedition to swerve into the side of a pickup truck following behind....

    The pickup truck driver was killed, the Expedition was mangled, and the Suburban and trailer were barely damaged.


    Sheriff's investigators closed Sierra Highway near Davenport, the site of the accident, until 5:10 p.m.

    United Way supports "Tomorrows Leaders"

    The United Way of Greater Los Angeles is contributing $40,000 to its Santa Clarita chapter, allocating the funds to establish a program called "Tomorrow's Leaders...."

    According to Charlie Gill, chairman of United Way's Santa Clarita Campaign Cabinet, programs like "Tomorrow's Leaders" will help youth develop to their full potential through high-quality academic enrichment, arts and leadership programs, amd technology instruction. 


    The hope is that graduation rates will increase and incidents of poverty will decrease.

    College of the Canyons Approved In Canyon Country

    State Commission Gives Final Approval to College Center in Canyon Country
    Sacramento -- The California Postsecondary Education Commission (CPEC) has
    approved College of the Canyons¹ plan to establish a permanent education
    facility in Canyon Country.

    The unanimous decision came Tuesday at CPEC¹s regular meeting in Sacramento,
    and the approval was the final step required before the college could move
    forward with plans to acquire property and construct the Canyon Country
    Educational Center.

    Cameron Smyth Sworn In As Mayor

    Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar handed his reigns over to Cameron Smyth in a ceremony at City Hall tonight.

    KHTS would like to congratulate Mayor Bob Kellar on the tremendous job he performed during the past year as Mayor of Santa Clarita. Kellar will continue on as City Councilman.


    KHTS welcomes City Councilman Cameron Smyth, back in as Santa Clarita Mayor and wishes him the best of luck.


    City Councilwoman, Laurene Weste was voted in as Mayor Pro-tem.
