Cowboy Festival Earns Two International Awards

Awards commend promotion of event

The City of Santa Clarita’s Cowboy Festival received two Pinnacle awards for promotional materials used during the 2007 festival from the prestigious International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) /Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards Ceremony held at the IFEA’s 52nd Annual Convention & Expo. The awards were presented at the organization’s awards ceremony, September19, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Power Outages Reported In Santa Clarita

Outages are believed to be weather related

UPDATE:  KHTS has received reports of power outages in the Santa Clarita Valley. As of 2pm Saturday, Edison had restored power to most of the effected areas  - including residents in the community of Friendly Valley in Newhall who had been without service since midnight Saturday.  These scattered outages were weather related and Edison crews worked through the afternoon to restore service.

POW/MIA Flag Flies At City Hall

In support of National Prisoners POW/MIA Recognition Day, the City of Santa Clarita displayed the POW/MIA flag

City officials paid tribute to the service men and women who have been prisoners of war and those who are missing in action, by flying the POW/MIA flag in front of City Hall.

 Although the POW/MIA flag is flown daily in front of the City’s Veteran’s Memorial Plaza, it was a special occasion at City Hall .

 

Valencia Ralphs Closed After Fire

Fire seems to be caused by malfunctioning refrigeration unit

Early this afternoon, firefighters responded to a smoke call at the Ralphs on Orchard Village Road and Lyons Avenue. A small fire had broken out, and was apparently caused by a malfunctioning compressor in a refrigeration unit.

 

The estimated cost of the damage is listed at $30,000 just for the refrigeration system alone. An additional $30,000 in structural damage was sustained.
