    Dog Death Phenomenon Plagues SCV

Several Santa Clarita residents, including a woman named Irene have become victims of vendors, selling dogs illegally throughout the valley....

Apparently these illegal vendors find animals on the backs of vehicles, and most of the animals are sold for several hundred dollars.

On top of the ridiculously high prices, most of these animals have been found to be sick, so the veterinarian bills add up as well.

More on this story can be found in today's Signal.

    Mayor Hears Annexation Arguments

In a homeowner's association meeting Monday evening, Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth ensured Castaic-area residents that they can choose whether they will become part of the city or not....

Many Castaic residents feel it would be detrimental to the community to join the city, and some residents feel as if the city seeks to annex additional areas.

While Smyth believes the city should be continuous throughout the communities in the Santa Clarita Valley, the city "does not actively pursue annexation."

    SCV Teachers Dispute Governors Reform

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to propse an education initiative known as "recognition pay," which pays teachers in low-performing schools more than other schools....

Representatives from the California Teachers Association's SCV Chapter, including Saugus High School educator Orval Garrison, disagree with this policy.

Local teachers argue that the state should make the low performing schools better, rather than trying to entice teachers to work at those schools and settle for lower results.
