    Jeffreys Law Fails to Pass Committee


    Assemblywoman Sharon Runner's (R-Lancaster) legislation to increase the penalty for providing alcohol to minors failed to pass the Senate Public Safety Committee Tuesday on a party-line vote.

    Castaics New High School for 09

    It'll probably cost over one hundred million dollars, but school officials say the new Castaic High School will be worth the cost, & effort, when completed in 2009.  The William S. Hart Union High School District has given the go ahead for written plans, with detailed architectural drawings expected in September.

    A Real Fish Story You Can Believe

    Abu Ibrahim thought he had a maneater on his hands when he reeled the "piranha" onshore at Castaic Lake Monday.  Turns out the fish is actually a mild-mannered cousin called a "pacu", with a far less fearful demeanor.  The pacu is primarily a plant eater, unlike the notorious piranha that feeds on flesh.  State fish & game officials say it's not the first time a species like this has been pulled from Castaic Lake.  Apparently, people tend to throw them into lakes & streams when the creature becomes too big for their aquariums.

    Another Brush Fire In Lancaster

    Another brush fire, this time in Lancaster, continued burning Monday night after igniting near the area of Lancaster Road and Muntz Road. Over 500 acres have burned so far and as of 6pm Monday night, the fire was at 10 percent containment. 220 firefighters have taken part in the effort to put the fire out, and so far no structures have burned, and no injuries have been reported.

    McKeon Introduces Legislation for Perchlorate Clean Up in SCV

    (Washington, DC) --  U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) late last week introduced legislation which would authorize $35 million in additional funding to study and clean up perchlorate contamination at the former Whitaker-Bermite defense industrial site in Santa Clarita.  Of the $35 million, $10 millions would be earmarked to study a long term solution to the problem of groundwater contamination as a result of perchlorate, and $25 million would be directed for clean up efforts.  It is Rep.
