    Planner Leaving to Head Up Chamber in Washington State

    Santa Clarita City Planning Commissioner Rick Winsman has resigned his position to head the chamber of commerce in Longview, Washington, ending a five-year tenure that City Council members called "outstanding".

    Mayor Mulling Run at Assembly

    Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth has filed a statement of intention to run for the 38th Assembly District being vacated by Keith Richman, who's running for state treasurer.  "For me, I'm still in the exploratory phase," Smyth said Tuesday.

    Home Destroyed In Blaze

    No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a Canyon Country double-wide mobile home & two vehicles Monday morning.

    The blaze started about 8:20a.m. at the Parklane Mobile Home Park in the 20000 block of Soledad Canyon near Rainbow Glen Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which fought the fire.

    A summer sun warmed the pavement & a gentle breeze danced down the streets of Newhall as thousands packed the sidewalks Monday morning for Santa Clarita's annual Fourth of July parade, now in its 73rd year.

    San Francisquito Canyon Road To Reopen July 5th

    Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced that

    San Francisquito Canyon Road
    , between the Antelope and Santa Clarita Valleys, will be re-opened on July 5.  Closed earlier this year due to severe storm damage, the roadway will be open to allow through traffic in both directions for the first time since January

    Dodgers Fell to the Diamondbacks, 10-3
