Two Saugus youths were arrested on vandalism-related charges Thursday after a Forestry employee spotted them tagging a utility control box near Capra Road and Soledad Canyon Road in the unincorporated area of the county.

Car Break-In Thwarted In Saugus

Parole violator in custody after attempting to steal GPS system.

 

A Granada Hills man was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly breaking into a parked car, attempting to steal a GPS system and punching the vehicle's owner when he was confronted. 

Carl Peterson, 50, was seen breaking into a car near the Circle K Store on the 28000 block of Bouquet Canyon Road by an off-duty deputy. The car’s owner tried to stop Peterson, who then punched him and a fight ensued.

As the New Year approaches, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station would like to remind all residents to celebrate responsibly.  Successful New Year's Eve celebrations begin with careful planning and prudent judgment and any alcohol related event should include arrangements for designated drivers or other safe alternative accommodations.  A designated driver is an individual within a group of people drinking alcoholic beverages at an event/establishment who remains sober to drive the others home afterwards. 

Amgen 2008: Bigger And Better In Santa Clarita

Santa Clarita to get double the excitement this year.

Come February 23rd, hundreds of thousands of fans will pack Santa Clarita streets and tune in through the media to witness the largest American bicycle race take shape.

 

Last year, the Amgen Tour of California blazed through Santa Clarita, which hosted the Stage six finish. This year, however, in addition to hosting the Stage six finish, Santa Clarita will also serve as the starting point for Stage seven.

Curb Your Christmas Tree!

Curbside recycling now available.

  

Residents of the city of Santa Clarita can make it a green new year by recycling their Christmas trees.

Trees should be left out with trash and other recyclables on residents' regular pickup day. There is no additional charge for tree removal. Please take all decorations, lights and stands from trees.  Flocked trees cannot be recycled.

The free pickup service started Dec. 26 and continues through January 12.

31 Arrested For Drunk Driving Over Christmas Holiday

California Highway Patrol reports drunk driving arrests.

 

The California Highway Patrol arrested 31 people for driving under the influence over the Christmas holiday in the Newhall area.

Officer John Lutz said the majority of people were taken into custody Friday through Sunday.

During the 2006 Christmas enforcement period statewide, 28 people were killed and 1,351 arrested for DUI and over the New Year enforcement period, 38 were killed and 1,481 arrested for DUI. Local statistics were not available.

Marshal Surprises Youthful Burglar

A 17-year old Canyon Country boy was arrested on burglary and weapons charges Tuesday night after being caught in a Keaton Street garage by the homeowner, who happened to be a U.S. Marshal.

The year 2007 will forever be remembered as one of the best years for sports in Santa Clarita.  We had it all; a National Championship, heart-breaking finishes, surprise stars, and Olympic qualifiers.  The KHTS Sports department has put together the following Top 10 list, which we feel were the top stories, players, and games of 2007.  Enjoy!

While the following student and team didn’t muster enough support for the top 10, there was some heavy consideration:
