    One Lane of Grapevine Closed Tuesday Morning

    The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close one lane of northbound I-5 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.Tuesday, July 12 from Fort Tejon to Grapevine to complete clean-up caused by a recent overturned big-rig hauling jet-fuel spill.


    Caltrans reminds motorists fines are doubled in work zones.

    Skaters Mark Store Opening

    A local skateboarder turned pro was among those invited to compete in an inaugural contest marking the launch of a new surf & skate store in Stevenson Ranch Sunday.

    "It's unreal," said Justin Eldridge, of Saugus.  "I wake up every day & I can't believe I'm doing what I want to do."

    Crews Contain Blaze Near

    About 75 firefighters quickly snuffed out a small blaze Sunday afternoon along the 5 freeway south of Templin Highway that was sparked by a vehicle fire.

    The five-acre burn, reported at 4:06pm, was completely controlled @ 40 minutes later, an official said.

    City Plans to Cut Field Services Department

    The city of Santa Clarita's eliminating its Field Services department effective Sept. 1 in a bid to streamline operations & save almost $300,000 a year.

    The department will disappear following the departure of former Field Services Director Chris Daste, who left Santa Clarita last month for a job in Elk Grove.

    City To Answer Newhall Residents Questions

    In an effort to address east Newhall residents who fear the Newhall Redevlopment project will put them out of their homes, the city Planning Department's holding a bilingual informational meeting Wednesday, 6 pm, at the Santa Clarita Senior Center.

    Dodgers Lose To Astros 6-5

    The Houston Astros sweep the Los Angeles Dodgers in their three game series.  In the final game the Dodgers started off with a nice 5-1 lead but soon that all fell apart with the Astros defeating the Dodgers 6-5.  Maybe with their three day break the Dodgers will pull it together.  Join us on Thursday at 6:30pm for more Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. 

    Fundraiser Nears For Newhall Auditorium

    Theatre Arts for Children Foundation, in collaboration with Santa Clarita Playhouse, is hosting a wine tasting event at the Egg Plantation on Saturday, July 16, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

    Proceeds from the fundraiser will be placed towards the renovation of the Newhall Auditorium, specifically for fire and safety occupancy and compliance. The auditorium is located on the Newhall Elementary School site.


    Tickets are available for $35.00 per person and can be purchased by contacting Sue Neiberger at 661.253.0804.

    The Dodgers lost to the Astros Saturday in Houston. The final was in game two of the series. Game three against the Astros on Sunday starts at Catch the action on Santa Clarita's Hometown Station, AM 1220 KHTS!

    Fire Too Small for All Help Sent Out

    An afternoon blaze near a Newhall gun club turned out to be more bark than brush Friday — a pair of oak trees caught fire and put up an unusual amount of smoke, tricking firefighters into scrambling more help than they needed.

     The 2-acre brush fire in Weldon Canyon, near the Oaktree Gun Club, blackened hillsides during evening rush hour but did not halt traffic or damage any structures.
    Three helicopters, five engines and two camp crews arrived to fight the blaze, which was contained in minutes.
