    COC Offering a Paralegal Certificate

    College of the Canyons is now offering a paralegal certificate for students who are interested in pursuing a career in what has become the fastest growing profession in America.  A paralegal program is one that residents have said they wanted for some time. In many ways it can be said that paralegals are a lawyers' right hand. According to the U.S Department of Labor, paralegals help "lawyers prepare for closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings.

    Henry Mayo in Second Phase of E.R. Expansion

    In a continued effort to meet the Santa Clarita Valley’s health care needs, work is under way to expand the emergency department at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. Director of Facilities Bob Knoblauch said the $9 million project is now in its second phase. “This is the major addition to the building,” he said of the construction, which will more than double the existing 7,700 square-foot emergency room to 16,600 square-feet. The expansion will increase the number of emergency room beds from 21 to 33.

    College of the Canyons Biotechnology Clean Room Set For Opening

    College of the Canyons is putting the finishing touches on its new biotechnology center, part of a two-year project to create a state-of-the-art laboratory for the life sciences and engineering program.  Located just 10 minutes from its main campus, the College of the Canyons Biotechnology Center contains a 2000 square foot clean room within a 4700 square foot facility in the Mann Biomedical Park.

    City Red Light Cameras a Success

     The success of the first five red light cameras during the program’s first year may result in the addition of fifteen more cameras.  A total of 586 notices for red light violators were sent out in the first thirty days of the program and numbers are currently on the decline.
     
    The City reports that citations are down overall about forty percent over the last four months, when compared with the first four months of the program.  The red light cameras first went on line in July 2004.
