    11th Annual Californina ON-LOCATION Awards

    Five production companies that chose the Santa Clarita Valley as the setting for their feature films, commercials and television programs will be recognized at the 2005 California On-Location Awards (COLAs) on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the Los Angeles Marriott Downtown.  The COLAs acknowledge the efforts and professionalism of locations departments, which are responsible for scouting areas, identifying and managing locations and serving as the liaison to the local community while filming.

    Val Verde Community Regional Park Receives Increased Budget

    Val Verde Community Regional Park will receive $2,700,000

    dollars for park improvements, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich

    announced.  The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the revised

    budget to fund upgrading the ball field and renovating the basketball

    Rain Pummels SCV Roads, Mobile Homes

    As rain and winds pelted the Santa Clarita Valley on Monday, the Polynesian Mobile Home Park’s sole entrance flooded yet again. “We’ve been waiting for this bridge,” said park resident Mario Gaitan. “The first rains come and the bridge fails. It makes no sense. We don’t want to be evacuated, that’s expensive.” The mobile home park’s one entrance has been the source of problems for residents for more than a year. “They haven’t been doing anything,” park resident Rebecca Bretches said of the owners.

    College of the Canyons Ready for Homecoming with Barbecue and Game

    As part of the homecoming festivities, alumni and friends are invited to join College of the Canyons for a barbecue in recognition of the 2004 and 2005 Outstanding Alumni and Friends Awards on Saturday, Oct. 22.  The barbecue and program will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

    Driver Killed in 3-car Collision on Highway 126

    A Santa Paula man was killed Monday morning when a sports utility vehicle reportedly swerved into the front of his truck while he was driving down state Highway 126, an official said.Juan Alvarado, 45, of Santa Paula died at the scene of the crash.  He reportedly wasn't wearing a seat belt.  See the details in Tuesday's Signal.
