Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Deputies Caution Online Sellers After Thefts

A handful of reported thefts stemming from meetups arranged online have Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies warning residents who are looking to sell online through popular social media sites like Facebook or online classifieds such as CraigsList. A Palmdale man looking to sell an expensive camera met a man he assumed was a Valencia resident in front of what he thought was the presumed buyer’s home on the 23500 block of Via Barra on Wednesday. The suspect walked up on foot, telling the victim he was just finishing a jog around the neighborhood, according to Sheriff’s Station reports.

Santa Clarita Sports: West Ranch And Hart Baseball Ranked In Top 5

The Hart baseball team is ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll. Hart is undefeated at 4-0 in the Foothill League and 10-0-1 overall.

Hart plays Saugus to wrap up the first round of Foothill League play on Wednesday.

West Ranch is ranked No. 5 in the Southern Section Division 1 poll. The Wildcats are 3-1 and in second place in the Foothill League standings.

West Ranch plays Canyon on Wednesday.

Santa Clarita City Council Could See Frank Ferry Return To The Dais

A Los Angeles County judge might have paved the way for a last-minute run at a fifth term by Santa Clarita City Councilman Frank Ferry. Due to Santa Clarita’s term limits on City Council seats, Ferry said he was planning to move on to a new career earlier this year. He stepped down from his post as principal of Alemany High School in February. Santa Clarita City Councilman Frank FerryHowever, Ferry’s reaction to Judge Henry Nussbaum’s late Monday afternoon ruling seemed to indicate Ferry is inclined to put post-council plans on hold.

Santa Clarita City Council Race '14: Last Look At Campaign Disclosures, Votes

Santa Clarita City Council race is less than 10 days away, candidates have filed their last campaign disclosures before voters hit the ballots and nearly 7,000 votes have been cast. In the last three City Council elections, votes by mail report have shown a turnout of about 2-to-1 in favor of mail-in or absentee ballots for Santa Clarita. In 2012, slightly more than 11,600 of the 15,390 votes cast were sent by mail. Only 3,783 votes were cast at the polls on election day. Absentee or mail-in ballots may be submitted up until the close of polls on election day, said Susan Caputo, assistant city clerk, noting that 6,888 ballots already have been received.
