Saugus Girls Cross Country Team 17th At Nike Cross Nationals Meet

The Saugus girls cross country team capped their season with a 17th-place finish at the Nike Cross Nationals meet in Oregon.

Samantha Ortega was the top runner for Saugus. She completed the course in 20 minutes, 57 seconds and came in 25th place.

Four of the Saugus girls completed the course in less than 23 minutes and three finished in the top 100.

Saugus senior AJ Yarnall, competing as an individual, was 41st in the boys race. He completed the course in 18 minutes, 4 seconds.

Traffic Collision Backs Up Traffic On 5 Southbound

A four vehicle traffic collision was reported at 12:19PM at the Roxford Street offramp on the southbound Interstate 5. Vehicles originally were blocking the number 1 and 2 lanes, backing up traffic to the base of the Newhall pass where Interstate 5 and Highway 14 merge. 

Emergency crews have arrived on the scene to aid in clearing the roadway. 

UPDATED: Man Stabbed To Death In Newhall Early Sunday

Homicide detectives are still looking for a motive and suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Newhall man that took place Sunday outside of the victim's home, according to Lt. John Corina.

"We're still not sure of a motive, as far as if it was just a robbery or if it was a gangbanger," Corina said. There is no suspect at this time, he added.

A man died at the hospital after being stabbed at 2:21 a.m. Sunday morning.

More Parking For Real Life Church Still In The Works

The Santa Clarita Planning Commission will consider issuing a permit Tuesday for a new 5-acre park in the Bridgeport Marketplace, half of which would be a parking lot for Real Life Church congregants.

A deal has been in the works for more than a year to provide additional parking for the growing church.

Smyth Passes Office Keys To Wilk

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth has handed off the keys to his Santa Clarita district office to his successor, Assemblyman-elect Scott Wilk. Wilk will be sworn in to represent the 38th Assembly District at high noon on Monday, Dec. 3.

“I am honored to have served the 38th district over the last 6 years. I worked hard to get things done for our district, and also for our state as a whole. I am so happy that I’m able to hand off the keys to my friend, Scott Wilk,” said Smyth, R-Santa Clarita.

Supervisor Antonovich To Be Sworn In For Ninth Term On Monday

LOS ANGELES COUNTY—Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich will be sworn in for his ninth term as a member of the Board of Supervisors by the Honorable John A. Arguelles, Justice, California Supreme Court (Ret.) on Monday morning at 10.

Report: Deputies Capture Purse-Snatching Suspect

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a man suspected of stealing a woman's purse inside a fast-food restaurant in the early morning hours Saturday.

The man is accused of stealing a woman’s purse from a Carl’s Jr. in Newhall on Nov. 25.
