Valencia Water Company Offers Free Sprinkler Nozzles

Valencia Water Company announced Monday it will offer free high-efficiency sprinkler nozzles to homes, businesses, schools and non-profits in its service area.

Newhall Center Hosts Carolers And Santa Claus

The Newhall Community Center is hosting a free holiday party with the Community Center Youth Choir and the Senior Center Choir Thursday, Dec. 20 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event will include musical performances from both groups, as well as photos with Santa Claus, holiday ornament decorating and complimentary cookies and hot chocolate.

Saugus Girls Soccer Team Wins Buena Tournament

The Saugus girls soccer team shut out Oaks Christian, 1-0, in the championship game of the Buena Tournament.

Angie Weiner scored the lone goal of the game in the first half and goalkeeper Maddie Hebert held Oaks Christian scoreless.

It was the second time in three years the Centurions won the Buena Tournament. They have reached the championship match in all three years, playing Oaks Christian each time.

The Saugus girls tied Dos Pueblos, 1-1, and advanced on penalty kicks, 4-1, in the semifinals of the tournament. Weiner scored the only goal in regulation for Saugus in that game too.

The Saugus girls soccer team is ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Division 2 poll. The Centurions are 10-0 and have seven shutouts.

Newhall Bicycle Company Closing Its Doors

Newhall Bicycle Co., one of the shining lights of Old Town Newhall revitalization and the host of the annual Thanksgiving community feast, announced Monday that it will shut its doors at the end of the year.

“The closing of 2012 brings so many great memories,” shop owner Roger Hasper said in a Facebook post. “However, 2012 will be the final year of Newhall Bicycle Company. My family and I are being called in a new direction.”

Ken Pulskamp Honored By City Officials, Residents Friday

More than 400 people gathered Friday, December 14 at the Santa Clarita Activities Center to wish a fond farewell to retiring City Manager Ken Pulskamp. The festivities included dinner, words from Pulskamp and several (past and present) City officials, a tribute video and an opportunity for guests to have their picture taken with Pulskamp.

Another Round Of Winter Weather For Santa Clarita

Unsettled weather will be returning to the Santa Clarita Valley Monday night. While the winter weather will be mild at best, National Weather Service officials have issued special weather warnings for the Southern California area.

“Another weak weather system is coming in tonight into tomorrow morning,” said NWS weather specialist David Swet.

Rain totals will barely touch a tenth of an inch, according in the NWS.

“There will be light showers, nothing big. After [Tuesday morning] it will clear up, become cold and breezy, with winds up to 25 mph,” Swet said.

Scott Wilk’s election to the Assembly in November opened a seat on the Santa Clarita Community College District (i.e., College of the Canyons) Board of Trustees.

The college is looking for a replacement. Applications are being accepted through Jan. 2 to fill the vacancy.

The four remaining board members will sift through the applications and appoint a successor.
