Saugus Girls Cross Country Team Headed To Nike Cross Nationals Meet

The Saugus girls cross country team is headed to the Nike Cross Nationals meet in Oregon for the seventh year in a row.

Coming off their seventh straight CIF State championship, the Saugus girls earned an at-large invitation to Saturday’s national cross country meet.

Saugus senior AJ Yarnall also earned an invitation to the Nike Cross Nationals. He will be making his first appearance in the meet.

The Saugus girls team finished in 12th place in the meet last year. From 2007 to 2010, the girls were in the top four, but have never won the Nike Cross Nationals.

Glittering Holiday Train Stops In Newhall

Warning chimes sounded and the crowd roared at a railroad crossing Sunday night as a thoroughly decorated train pulled into the Jan Heidt Metrolink station. The Holiday Toy Express travels through six counties to collect gifts for the less fortunate and this year, the train has partnered with the 20th annual Spark of Love Toy Drive.

Plum Canyon Elementary Honored For Helping Vets

Plum Canyon Elementary School was honored in an assembly Monday morning for raising more than $2,000 for SCV's Habitat for Heroes’ Nickels for Nails campaign, a program of Habitat for Humanity Santa Clarita/San Fernando Valleys. Plum Canyon raised more money than any other school, in an effort that will help fund Habitat’s newest project, Veteran Village. When completed, the housing development will include 87 homes built specifically to meet the needs of low-income veterans.

Amgen Tour To Announce Schedule Tuesday For Next Year's Race

Amgen Tour of California officials will be announcing their starting and stopping locations Tuesday at 1 p.m. for next year's big race.

Tour and city officials said they are remaining tight-lipped until the news conference, but you can click here to follow a live stream of the announcement.

Restaurant Hosts Auction & Toy Drive For Homeless

On December 8th Salt Creek Grille Valencia along with Combat Radio will host their 2nd Annual Breakfast with Santa! -- a celebrity-filled breakfast supporting homeless children.

The event will benefit the Family Promise Organization and Toys For Tots.  The Christmas Breakfast is co-hosted by many of the Combat Radio's celebrity guests along with appearances from Disney characters and the Star Wars and Transformers franchises.

Guests are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy or family-sized household item to donate in exchange for a raffle ticket.

Einstein Academy Officials Tout Big Week

Einstein Academy is touting a big week for the charter school, with progress in athletics, finance and, potentially, school development, according to school officials.

The most significant development is the completion of a bond sale, which Executive Director Jeffrey Shapiro is taking as promising news, while the school awaits word on its petition for a kindergarten-to-sixth-grade school in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The school recently completed sales for a $6.395 million bond, which helped complete payment of the school’s main campus facility.

Cyber Monday Poised For Record Breaking Shopping

Cyber Monday is poised for another record-breaking online shopping day. While online sales passed the $1 billion mark on Black Friday, one retail analysis group is predicting Cyber Monday sales could meet and even surpass $1.5 billion.

According to data released Sunday from analyst firm comScore Inc., Cyber Monday spending is expected to exceed the $1.25 billion posted in 2011.
