Runner Realignment Legislation Fails In Committee

RunnerSharon1Cities and counties across the state are struggling to meet the increasing demands of housing convicted felons who until last year went to state prison. This local mandate was imposed by the Governor’s realignment plan.

With a heavy load of convicted criminals in their jails, local jurisdictions have been forced to release defendants awaiting trial as well as convicted felons who have not completed their terms.

Tension Palpable As Kellar, Boydston Sworn In

TimBen_BoydstonNewly sworn in Council Members Bob Kellar and TimBen Boydston received a standing ovation after Mayor Pro-Tem Frank Ferry announced their official addition to the council. Kellar even elicited a chorus of "Hip, hip hooray!" from the audience.

Foothill League Baseball Standings Tighten Up

khts_sportsThe Foothill League baseball standings just got a little tighter.

Valencia beat first-place Hart, 4-2, and cut the Indians’ lead to one game with five games left to play in the league season.

Brian Mundell hit a solo home run and drove in two run for Valencia.

Hart lost only its second league game of the season.

Saugus and West Ranch are a game behind Hart after winning their games.

Hart Students Recreate Viral Video To Air On 'Day Of Silence'

Hart High School in Newhall have recreated filmmaker Ryan James Yezak's documentary video for "I Want to Know What It's Like" as a video to air on the school's daily newscast to promote local observance of a "Day of Silence" on Wednesday.

Home Prices Increasing, Condos Still Lag Behind

For the second time in 16 months, single-family home prices across the Santa Clarita Valley topped year-ago figures during March.

Data from the Southland Regional Association of Realtors show a median price of $378,100 for single-family homes sold in March, up from $376,000 in March 2011.
