    Hart, West Ranch, Saugus Tied For First Place In Foothill League Baseball Standings

    khts_sportsThe Foothill League championship in baseball is completely up for grabs.

    Hart, Saugus and West Ranch are tied for first place in the league standings after Friday’s games. Valencia sits a game behind the top three, in fourth place, after knocking off Hart.

    The Vikings won 6-2 to climb back in the Foothill League race. Valencia’s Chris Gimenez pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings in relief and Brian Mundell knocked in two runs in a four-run sixth inning.

    Santa Clarita Deputy Injured In Traffic Collision

    A deputy assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station was injured in a traffic collision on Saturday.

    Deputy Kirk Petersen was making a left turn on a green light from southbound Auto Center Drive in Valencia onto eastbound Magic Mountain Parkway when he collided with a Lexus driven by a male juvenile (16 years old). The juvenile driver was driving with a male juvenile passenger northbound from the north entrance of the Valencia Town Center Mall and through the intersection.

    One Arrested At Checkpoint For Drunk Driving

    One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and another person was cited for driving without a license at a checkpoint Friday night in Valencia.

    Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station operated the DUI-driver’s license checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on eastbound McBean Parkway at Bridgeport Lane and screened a total of 1,323 vehicles.

    Ten additional citations were issued for various vehicle code violations.
