    Brush Fire Knocked Down At Smokey Bear Road

    Los Angeles County firefighters made quick work of a brush fire that broke out Saturday afternoon near Pyramid Lake.

    The fire was reported at 3:20 p.m. just east of Interstate 5, south of Smokey Bear. It spread to 2 or 3 acres in gusty 5mph winds.

    The right two lanes of northbound Interstate 5 were closed due to heavy smoke.

    Start Smart Gives Young Drivers A Leading Edge

    chplogoThe California Highway Patrol will be conducting a Start Smart Class on Monday, April 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Newhall Area Office. The class is free to attend and is open to newly licensed drivers AND their parents.

     

    The class is designed to raise awareness of the responsibilities and privileges of being a licensed California driver, as well as addresses the dangers and liabilities that come with it.

    Dollhouse Productions founder and Santa Clarita resident Nancy Hanks is 61 years old and she’s the kid of the creative group that includes Sue Upperco, Rachel Arno, and Linda Simeone.

    “They’re all just about Social Security age. Almost 65,” said Hanks.

    Suspect On The Run Causes School Lockdown

    khts_crime_genericA suspected parolee eluded capture Friday morning near Canyon Springs Elementary School in Canyon Country, causing a lockdown on the campus.

    Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station said that deputies recognized a man who they thought might be selling drugs in the area near the school and attempted to talk with him.
