Golf Facility Donates To Boy Scouts

scratchjuniorgolfScratch, LLC, an indoor golf training and fun facility, has announced a $1,500 sponsorship of the Boy Scouts of America. This donation will support the Merit Badge Program in the Bill Hart District.

Canyon, West Ranch Boys Basketball Teams Ready For Second Round Of CIF Playoffs

khts_sportsThe Canyon and West Ranch boys basketball teams will try to keep their season’s alive tonight in the second round of the CIF playoffs.

Canyon, the second-seeded team in the Division 2AA playoffs, is on the road against Tesoro. The Cowboys routed Godinez, 70-29, in the first round.

Eighth-seeded West Ranch is home against ninth-seeded Edison in the Division 1A playoffs. The Wildcats eliminated Paramount, 72-62, in the first round.

The origin of Presidents' Day lies in the 1880s, when the birthday of George Washington was first celebrated as a federal holiday.  In 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Bill, which moved a number of federal holidays to Mondays in order to give workers a number of long weekends throughout the year.

Teen Driver Deaths Up Nationally, First Time In 8 Years

A report released Monday by the Governors Highway Safety Association reveals that the number of 16- and 17-year-old driver deaths in passenger vehicles increased slightly for the first six months of 2011, based on preliminary data supplied by all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Overall, 16- and 17-year-old driver deaths increased from 190 to 211 – an 11 percent increase. If the trend continued for the second half of 2011, it will mark the end of eight straight years of cumulative declines in deaths for this age group.

Mamma Mia To Play Limited Run At Pantages March 27- April 8

Canyon, Saugus Advance To Second Round Of CIF Girls Basketball Playoffs

khts_sportsThe Canyon and Saugus girls are still alive in the CIF basketball playoffs. The same can’t be said for the Valencia and West Ranch girls.

The Canyon girls beat Redlands, 61-38, in the first round of the Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs. Alia McCoy led Canyon with 22 points.

Eighth-seeded Canyon plays ninth-seeded Segerstrom in the second round on Wednesday.

More than 140 individuals took part in this year’s Polar Plunge by plunging into the near-frigid waters of Castaic Lake Saturday morning.
