Canyon Wins Ventura Boys Basketball Tournament

khts_sportsCanyon’s Coley Apsay has been the Heat Miser, the hottest player on the court, in the Ventura boys basketball tournament.

He scored 31 points and led Canyon to the Ventura tournament championship.

Canyon beat host Ventura, 53-50, in the title game. Apsay hit seven 3-pointers and was selected as the tournament MVP.

The Cowboys are off to a 14-1 start, the only loss coming against a talented Crespi team.

December 29 2011: Kings Lose To Jets In Overtime 1-0

The Kings lose a tough one against the Jets in Winnipeg Thursday night. The game was quiet with no scores from either team and was an even contest until the end of game regulation. Then in overtime, Evander Kane scored the one and only goal for the Jets to get the victory for the Jets. Kings get shutout 1-0. NASA Twin Spacecraft On Final Approach For Moon Orbit

NASA_grail_122911NASA's twin spacecraft to study the moon from crust to core are nearing their New Year's Eve and New Year's Day main-engine burns to place the duo in lunar orbit.

Named Gravity Recovery And Interior Laboratory (GRAIL), the spacecraft are scheduled to be placed in orbit beginning at 1:21 p.m. PST for GRAIL-A on Dec. 31, and 2:05 p.m. PST (5:05 p.m. EST) on Jan. 1 for GRAIL-B.

Redevelopment Agencies Dealt Fatal Blow By State's High Court

supreme_court_building1In what city officials are calling the “worst case scenario,” the California Supreme Court ruled today that Governor Jerry Brown’s proposal to eliminate redevelopment agencies as a way to deal with the state’s fiscal crisis will stand and struck down an alternative proposal, which would have allowed redevelopment agencies to make payments into funds that benefited schools and special districts to continue operating.

Firefighters Make Quick Work Of Brush Fire

Los Angeles County and USDA Forest Service fire fighters made quick work of a brush fire that broke out shortly before noon Thursday in the mountains above Santa Clarita.

The fire was located in a remote area north of Pyramid Lake and east of Interstate 5.
