The new year will bring new laws for California motorists including tougher Driving Under the Influence (DUI) penalties, expansion in the Child Passenger Safety Seat law and stricter Electric Vehicle (EV) parking regulations.

Canyon’s Coley Apsay has been the Heat Miser, the hottest player on the court, in the Ventura boys basketball tournament.

He scored 31 points and led Canyon to the Ventura tournament championship.

Canyon beat host Ventura, 53-50, in the title game. Apsay hit seven 3-pointers and was selected as the tournament MVP.

The Cowboys are off to a 14-1 start, the only loss coming against a talented Crespi team.

The Kings lose a tough one against the Jets in Winnipeg Thursday night. The game was quiet with no scores from either team and was an even contest until the end of game regulation. Then in overtime, Evander Kane scored the one and only goal for the Jets to get the victory for the Jets. Kings get shutout 1-0. In what city officials are calling the “worst case scenario,” the California Supreme Court ruled today that Governor Jerry Brown’s proposal to eliminate redevelopment agencies as a way to deal with the state’s fiscal crisis will stand and struck down an alternative proposal, which would have allowed redevelopment agencies to make payments into funds that benefited schools and special districts to continue operating.
