Antonovich Reacts To Governor's Refusal To Stop Transfer Of Violent Prisoner

mikeantonovichGovernor Brown’s administration has denied the county’s request to reconsider today's transfer of a criminally insane and violent state prisoner to a county hospital, announced Mayor Michael D. Antonovich.

UPDATED: Kidnap Attempt Thwarted By Fast-Footed Victim

khts_crimeUPDATED 5:54 p.m. Friday. A suspect arrested Thursday morning for the attempted kidnapping of a 13-year old boy will not be charged, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office.

Javier Benetiz Garcia, 56, was arrested at 7 a.m. Thursday and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station. The District Attorney refused to file charges because of a lack of evidence that Garcia is the actual suspect.

Hate Crimes Down In County, Lowest Level In 21 Years

Hate crimes in Los Angeles County fell 28 percent in 2010 to their lowest level in 21 years, according to a new annual report from the L.A. County Commission on Human Relations.

The number of reported hate crimes fell to 427 from 593 the year before. It was the third consecutive year the number has fallen.

No. 4 Valencia Football Team Opens CIF Playoffs Against Moorpark

Valencia, the co-champions of the Foothill League, is home against Moorpark, the fifth-place team from the Marmonte League. The Vikings are the No. 4 seeded team in the playoffs and won their last two games of the Foothill League season.
