A free Safe and Secure Community Collection Event will be hosted by the SCV Sheriff’s Station and the City of Santa Clarita on October 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  You can dispose of your personal documents, unwanted electronics, and expired or unused prescription medication in a way that will not only protect your identity, but also protect our environment.

Disney Animator Hahn To Screen Documentary At COC

waking-sleeping-beauty-movie-posterThe College of the Canyons cinema department will host a unique afternoon with legendary filmmaker, master storyteller and renowned Walt Disney studios animation producer Don Hahn, who will present a free on-campus screening of his documentary film “Waking Sleeping Beauty.”



Military Career Workshop Set For Oct. 20

us_army_logoA workshop sponsored by the U.S. Army, local educators and political representatives and designed to help job-seekers explore education and career options in the military is set for the Golden Valley High School Theater on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The event will open with a meet-and-greet social hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Animal Control To Conduct Compliance Sweep In Unincorporated Areas

Great_Dane_and_Chihuahua_smallAnimal owners in the unincorporated areas of Quartz Hill, Palmdale, Lake Elizabeth  and Lake Hughes will be getting a visit from officers of the Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC).


The visits are to check for current rabies vaccinations, ensure residents are in compliance with licensing requirements as well as the mandatory spay/neuter and microchip ordinance.

COC Men's Soccer Team Rallies Over Citrus College

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons men’s soccer team scored two second-half goals and beat Citrus College, 2-1, to remain unbeaten.

Marvin Delgado scored the game-winner in the 90th minute. Maayan Schrager tied the score with a goal in the 56th minute. COC is 4-0-5 after nine games.

The COC women’s soccer team shut out Glendale College 9-0 behind a hat trick from Elvia Contreras. Kaeli Rohland scored two goals and had an assist for COC.

Person Of Interest In Freeway Shootings Taken Into Custody By CHP

chplogoA suspect vehicle that was the subject of emergency alert postings on freeway CMS signs overnight was seen on the southbound 14 this morning by an alert motorist and California Highway Patrol officers took a person of interest into custody.

County Supervisors Approve First Phase Of Newhall Ranch

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 Tuesday to certify the environmental documents and signaled their intent to approve Landmark Village, the first phase of Newhall Land Development’s Newhall Ranch “mini-city” west of Interstate 5.

Although the system has been upgraded and adapted to keep up with changes in technology and in the regulatory environment, this project has a much larger scope.

Gelfand Positively Identified As Victim In Ravine Crash

Coroner’s investigators have determined that 88-year-old Melvin Gelfand of Los Angeles was the man whose body was found in a car north of Castaic after another driver crash-landed on top of him.
