Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Tops In Drops For Violent Crime

baca_2The Santa Clarita Valley Station is tops in the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for reducing overall violent crimes over the same period last year.

According to department officials, this matches overall crime declines in the LASD area for the first 9 months year to date 2011 compared to 2010.

U.S. Jobs Outlook Not Welcoming, But Not A Double-Dip Either

Dollar_SymbolU.S job growth in September was described as not threatening to bring a double-dip to the recession, but not welcoming either.

The Labor Department reported Friday that employers added 103,000 jobs in the month, however, Verizon workers returning from a strike represented 45,000 of those gains.

The September unemployment rate held steady at 9.1%.

Friday, the Kings played the New York Rangers at the Erickson Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The first goal of the game came in the first period when Anze Kopitar scored at 10:51 making it 1-0 Kings. New York answered back to tie things up 1-1 with a goal by Ryan Callahan at 15:22.

SCV Tourism Occupancy Rates Up 9.1 Percent

The Santa Clarita Valley experienced a 9.1 percent increase, the largest percentage increase in occupancy among Los Angeles markets, when comparing January through August 2011 and the same time period in 2010, according to PKF Hospitality Research’ August 2011 Trends report.

12 Local High School Seniors Named National Hispanic Scholars

William_S_Hart_districtThe National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) has identified 12 local high school seniors as National Hispanic Scholars.

Only 986 students were recognized either as Scholar or Honorable Mention in California, with only approximately 5300 selected nationwide.

RECALL: Cantaloupe Recall Widens

fruit_fresh_up_copyThe Fruit Fresh Up, Inc. recall is part of a larger recall involving cantaloupe traced to Rocky Ford cantaloupes produced by Jensen Farms in Holly, Colorado.

The Food and Drug Administration confirmed that listeria was found in samples taken from a Denver area store and the Jensen Farms packing facility. The melons were shipped to at least 17 different states across the U.S. between July 29th and September 10th.
