Proposed Preservation Ordinance Leaves Historic Designation Up To Owners

Property owners can’t be forced to preserve their historic buildings – but those who opt to take advantage of an official “historic” designation can’t easily back out later.

That’s the version of a proposed historic preservation ordinance that cleared the Santa Clarita Planning Commission on a 5-0 vote Tuesday.

Scammers Go Door-To-Door For Phony Paper

COClogoIf someone knocks on your door asking you to buy a subscription to College of the Canyons’ student newspaper, call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-259-1121.

Why? Because College of the Canyons doesn’t have a student newspaper.

COC spokesman Bruce Battle said the scammers are back. Several times in recent years, persons purporting to be college students have gone door-to-door to solicit donations or subscriptions in COC’s  name.

October 24 Last Day To Register To Vote In November 8 Election

election_checkMonday, October 24 is the last day to register to vote in the upcoming Local and Municipal Consolidated Elections scheduled for November 8.

Individuals who wish to register must be at least 18 years of age by Election Day, a U.S. citizen and resident of Los Angeles County and not in prison or on parole for conviction of a felony.

Here's what's biting in our local lakes:

1)  Castaic Lake....The striped bass bite continues!  The stripers are boiling on the schools of shad;  these are mostly 2-4 pound fish, with an occasional 8 pounder. There is also a few largemouth bass mixed in with the striped bass.  Also, good bluegill and catfish action in the coves.

1)  Castaic Lake....There's still flurries of striped bass going on; with lot's of boiling fish -  the best bite being in the late afternoon or early evening.  Fair to good largemouth bass bite; try the lagoon or Government Cove. Fair catfish and crappie action in the coves.
