Star Party Set October 21 At COC Canyon Country Campus

jupiter_ioThe College of the Canyons Canyon Country Campus will host an encore appearance by the planet Jupiter, which will be back on campus in full display and available for all to view, during the campus’ annual fall Star Party, taking place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in the Carl A. Rasmussen Amphitheater.


Canyon Girls Volleyball Team Beats St. Bonaventure, Stays Undefeated

khts_sportsThe Canyon girls volleyball team is playing perfectly these days. Canyon beat St. Bonaventure in four games to stay undefeated and run its record to 4-0.

Junior Morgan Fay led Canyon with 17 kills and 11 digs in the match. Courtney Spackman recorded 11 kills and 22 assists.

The Hart girls volleyball team was swept by La Canada in three games.

Fight Sends Two To Hospital, Next Stop, Jail

khts_crimeTwo men are at the hospital being treated for injuries suffered in a Wednesday afternoon altercation, and sheriff’s deputies are waiting to escort them to jail when they are bandaged up and ambulatory.



According to Lt. Tom Bryskie of the Santa Clarita Valley station, a woman called for help shortly after 1:30 in a neighborhood behind Canyon Country Park on Sarita Avenue.

Fire Burns One Acre In Acton

A fire that started on a hill behind house in Acton spread to nearby brush Wednesday at about 11:20 a.m. The fire was held to 1 acre and no structures burned.


The house is in the 9900 block of Soledad Pass Road east of Hillside Road, roughly 1.5 miles southeast of the Vincent Hill Metrolink Station between Acton “proper” and Palmdale.

CHP Aiming For Perfect Seat Belt Record

chplogoMore than 96 percent of Californians buckle up before they hit the road. While the Golden State has one of the highest compliance rate in the nation, the California Highway Patrol would like to see 100 percent of the motoring public safely secured in their vehicle.

Officer John Lutz of the Newhall CHP office, said that there is a good reason for buckling up.

Step Out Goal To Raise Diabetes Awareness And Funds To Fight Disease

TeamPatrickThe Santa Clarita Valley Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes is set for Saturday, October 15 and Team Patrick is just one of the groups hoping to raise money for the event. According to Lori Blumenthal, manager of the American Diabetes Association’s local office, over 1.9 million new adults cases of diabetes were diagnosed last year.


Movie Van Slides Down Ranch Road, Overturns

khts_ambulanceA van carrying cast and crew members on a film shoot in Mystery Mesa rolled off the road and overturned Monday, injuring three passengers.

According to CHP Officer John Lutz, Nathan Hardcastle, 37, of Los Angeles, was driving a 2010 Ford 15-passenger van along a dirt trail on the movie ranch in Vasquez Canyon about 1 p.m.


Hart, Canyon, West Ranch, Valencia To Participate In Reagan Coin Toss

Football teams across the country are honoring the Reagan Centennial by partnering with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and using the commemorative Reagan Centennial Coin in their pre-game coin toss.
