    Saugus Girls Volleyball Team Sweeps Valencia In Foothill League Opener

    khts_sportsThe Saugus girls volleyball  team opened the Foothill League season with a stunning three-game sweep of Valencia.

    Saugus snapped a 17-match losing streak against Valencia and beat the Vikings for the first time since 2002. Valencia has won at least a share of the Foothill League championship every year since 2001.

    Jaclyn Clark led Saugus with 14 kills. Teammate Ashley Pagan added nine kills and eight blocks. Setter Ashley Guthrie had 34 assists.

    September 27 2011: Dodgers Lose To Diamondbacks In Extra Innings 7-6

    It was a heartbreaking lose for the Dodgers as the Diamondbacks come from behind to win it. The game was quiet until the 7th inning when Dee Gordon hit a single line drive to left field in which Eugenio Velez scores putting the Dodgers up by one run. Then the Diamondbacks would tie the game at the bottom of the 7th inning when Lyle Overbay hit a double in which Chris Young scored a run. As the game went into the 10th inning, the Dodgers would score 5 runs and took a commanding 6-1 lead over the Diamondbacks.

    Fire At Templin Highway Burns 20 Acres

    Inspector Matt Levesque of the LA County Fire Department said that firefighters reported the brush fire at Templin Highway held at 20 acres and air units were released at 4:51 p.m. Tuesday. The fire was completely out shortly thereafter.

    Murder Suspect Charged With Murder, Use Of Lethal Weapon

    Screen_shot_2011-09-24_at_9.31.30_AM_copyLennie Paul Tracey, the 51-year-old Canyon Country man suspected of shooting his neighbor as a result of an ongoing feud, was charged today with murder for the shotgun death of Anthony Jay Davis.

     

     

    Tracey is charged with one count each of murder and assault with a firearm. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Department S of San Fernando Superior Court.

    Deputies Arrest Man Wanted For Spousal Abuse On Possible Burglary Call

    khts_crime_genericDeputies were busy Tuesday afternoon responding to a call reporting someone looking as if he was shaking doorknobs or breaking into homes.

    Turns out the man actually had a friend in the neighborhood.

    Also turns out that he had a $50,000 warrant for spousal abuse.

    He’s a guest of the county now.

    Man With Gun Reported Near Oviatt Library At CSUN

    khts_breakingnews2Students headed for classes at CSUN today should be aware of an emergency notification message for the Oviatt Library.

    Shortly before 10:30 a.m., University police received a call about a man who indicated he had a gun in the vicinity of the Oviatt Library.

    Historic Preservation Ordinance Back To Planning In October With Changes

    The Santa Clarita Planning Commission is scheduled next month to consider lifting current rules that make property owners jump through hoops of they want to demolish buildings in Newhall that are considered historic. The move would require subsequent City Council approval.

    First Two Phases Of Newhall Ranch Up For Final Approval

    Eight years after it was conceptually approved, a 20,660-home “mini-city” west of Interstate 5 in the Santa Clarita Valley is scheduled to take two giant leaps forward next month.

    On Oct. 4, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is slated to consider the first phase of The Newhall Land and Farming Co.'s Newhall Ranch project – followed by a review of the second phase Oct. 25.

    UPDATED: Suspect Eludes Deputies In Canyon Country Morning Chase

    khts_crimeUPDATED 4:36 p.m. Tuesday: The suspect who eluded deputies after being pursued earlier today was found on Shangri-La Drive and questioned. Sgt. Gregg Lewison told KHTS that the young man, a juvenile, was a probationer that was on house arrest; he was taken into custody and transported to Sylmar Juvenile Detention Center.
