    Santa Clarita's Photo Contest Accepting Submissions

    PhotographerPhotographers of all skill levels are invited to participate in the City of Santa Clarita’s new quarterly photo contest.  The first quarter contest is underway and submissions must be received by September 30, 2011 to qualify.

    The City of Santa Clarita is looking for images that depict the good life in Santa Clarita.  The quarterly photo contest is an opportunity to showcase community life as seen by Santa Clarita residents.

     

    Local Filmmaker’s 9/11 Tribute Screens at Temple Beth Ami, Airs Sunday on USA Network

    00005912Temple Beth Ami will host a memorial screening of the acclaimed film “The Space Between” by local writer, director and producer Travis Fine on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m., marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

    Alleged Burglar Arrested

    khts_crimeDetectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station have arrested and charged a suspect in an Aug. 19 burglary in Saugus.

     

    Matthew Swaim, 29, of Canyon Country, was arrested Sept. 7 and charged with the Aug. 19 residential burglary.

    Mountain Lion Seen Near Copperhill

    Mountain_LionA resident reported seeing a mountain lion in the Copperhill area of the Santa Clarita Valley heading south down Rye Canyon at 7:15 this morning.

     

    When deputies arrived and pursued the wild animal, it headed back into the wilderness. According to Sergeant Rich Nagler of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Fish and Game officials won’t respond because mountain lions are common in this area.

    Two Dead In Separate Hangings In SCV

    A man and a woman were found dead by hanging in separate incidents in the Santa Clarita Valley Monday, according to Los Angeles County Coroner spokesman Craig Harvey.

    The body of Laura Ann Hildebrandt, 45, of Studio City, was found hanging in a motel room in the 17000 block of Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita about noon Monday. Harvey said the exact cause of death had not yet been determined, but that her body would most likely be examined on Thursday.

    Saugus Students Stage Multimedia 9/11 tribute Friday

    Saugus Football Team Ranked No. 10 In CIF Poll

    The Saugus football team cracked the top 10 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division coaches poll. Saugus is ranked No. 10 after a come-from-behind, 31-20, win over Burroughs of Burbank last week.

    khts_sportsThe Canyon and Valencia football teams are also ranked in the top 10 of the Northern Division poll. Canyon comes in at No. 3 and Valencia is No. 5.

    September 6, 2011: Dodgers Beat Nationals, 7-3

    The Dodgers beat the Nationals 7-3 on a wet Tuesday night. Rain delayed the game for about 30 minutes in the 7th inning.

    BREAKING NEWS: Power Restored After Bird Burrows Into Transformer

    A sapsucker bird that had burrowed into a transformer caused approximately 279 homes to lose power near Live Oak Springs Canyon Road, which is east of Sand Canyon Road and South of Highway 14.

    Most of the homes had power restored in the 6pm hour.

    Honor Court Commemorates Ultimate Sacrifices

    ricky_2For Bob and Kay Slocum the pain of the 9/11 Anniversary hits close to home. Their son Corporal Ricky P. Slocum was killed in Abu Ghraib, Iraq October 24, 2004.

    On the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 The NorthPark Community Church will dedicate the Honor Court -- a monument to commemorate the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.
