UPDATED: Suspects Charged With Burglary, Assault In Canyon Country

Updated Friday, Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m.

Two men were arrested for allegedly burglarizing a truck in Canyon Country Thursday afternoon, and one suspect was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon while allegedly attempting to escape from the truck's owner.

"Two males were seen breaking into a victim's truck in the 27200 block of Plumwood Avenue, and items being taken from the truck," said Det. Sgt. Kevin Blake of the SCV Sheriff's Station.

Toxic Tax Loophole Dies in State Senate

smythoffice238th District Assembly Member Camerton Smyth's dream of a bipartisan California Jobs First Plan bill with Governor Jerry Brown to close a toxic tax loophole died on the senate floor when Republicans refused to vote for it.

The bill would have generated roughly 14 billion in revenue from out-of-state companies. There were also personal and business tax breaks.

Smyth said he's not frustrated.

Valencia Football Team Opens Against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame

khts_sportsThe Valencia football team opens on the road against an upstart Sherman Oaks Notre Dame team tonight.

Notre Dame won its season opener last weekend, 35-13, over Gardena Serra.

Valencia is the reigning Foothill League champion and reached the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs last season.
