August 22, 2011 Dodger Beat Cardinals 2-1

Monday, the Dodgers and Cardinals met for game one of a three game series in St. Louis. The Cardinals were first on the board in the second inning on a homerun by Lance Berkman. Then in the ninth, the Dodgers scored two runs to take the lead and the win. 2 to 1 was the final.

Number Of Historic Buildings Expected To Be Whittled Down

City_seal_med_clrThe Santa Clarita City Council will once again wrestle with the knotty problem of historic preservation following their summer hiatus. And like a tree branch having its knots whittled off, the council will consider a shaved down list of properties for historic designation.

Potential Grocery Strike Won't Hurt Economy

UFCW_logoOver the weekend The United Food and Commercial Workers Union voted to authorize a strike at Vons, Ralphs and Albertsons grocery chains, including those in Santa Clarita.

The UCFW 770 reported 90 percent approval by its 62,000 members to give union negotiators the authorization to strike if necessary.

At issue is the cost of health care.

Valencia Fares Well In Pierce College Girls Volleyball Tournament

khts_sportsThe Valencia girls volleyball team compiled a 9-2 record, second only to Campbell Hall, in the Pierce College summer high school tournament over the weekend.

Campbell Hall won the tournament, beating Chaminade, 25-22, in the championship match.

West Ranch was 8-3 and came in fourth place in the tournament. Saugus went 6-5 and lost to West Ranch and Valencia.

Hospital To Participate In Pool Safety Day August 27
