Hot August nights - a fine time to relax in a rocking chair on the front porch and listen to the crickets chirp.  Especially if you’re a cat.  Our cat, Mr. Bucky, likes it so much that he’s taken to sitting at the front door and yowling until I take him outside for a “rocking good time.”

Compromise Ends FAA Shutdown

faa_logoA standoff in Congress that has caused a two week partial shutdown in the Federal Aviation Administration and halted 70,000 construction jobs across the country has come to an end.  Well, at least for now.

CNN reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, announced Thursday that Democratic and Republican leaders have "been able to broker a bipartisan compromise between the House and the Senate" to fully fund the Federal Aviation Administration.

khts_crime_chpA Pico Rivera man fell asleep at the wheel of his big rig around 1 a.m. today, causing the truck to go through the guardrail and down an embankment on the northbound I-5 near Osito Canyon.


Adan Flores, 30, was driving a 2009 Freightliner, pulling a load of car batteries, when he went off the road. After the truck came to rest approximately 300 feet down, Flores climbed up to the roadway and flagged down passing motorists.

Providence To Offer Free Tdap Shots For Students And Caregivers

O'Neal Still On Probation For Pitchess Drug Arrest, Charged With Drug And Gun Possession

redmondonealRedmond O’Neal, the 26-year-old son of actor Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett, was charged today with felony possession of heroin and felon with a handgun, the District Attorney’s office announced.


O’Neal, who is on probation in a 2009 Santa Clarita case, is scheduled to be arraigned at the Airport Superior Court, Department 144, after 1:30 p.m.

Valencia Cheerleaders Sweep UCA Awards At UCLA

khts_sportsThe Valencia High cheerleading squads had a pretty successful weekend at the UCA cheer camp at UCLA over the weekend.

The varsity, junior varsity and freshman squads swept the cheer and extreme events at the cheer camp. The girls also received two superior awards at the camp.

The three Valencia teams competed in a field of 12 cheerleading squads.

UPDATED: Barricaded Suspect In Castaic

Special Weapons teams have concluded their operation in Castaic, taking into custody a 23-year old man who had been barricaded in a house on the 25000 block of Zion Court since 7:30 a.m.

Zion Court, Olympic and Hillcrest Parkway are now open.

Recall-SidebarCargill Value Added Meats Retail, a business unit of Wichita-based Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation, today announced an immediate Class I voluntary recall of approximately 36 million pounds of fresh and frozen ground turkey products produced at the company’s Springdale, Ark., facility from Feb. 20, 2011, through Aug. 2, 2011, due to possible contamination from Salmonella Heidelberg.
