Local Hospitals Receive High Rankings In US News And World Report

Rest assured, local medical care is among the best in Southern California.

The U.S News and World Report released its list of the best hospitals in the country on Tuesday, with three hospitals in the local area scoring high among the 140 recognized in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

West Ranch Opens Valley Invitational Baseball League Playoffs As Top Seed

khts_sportsThe Valley Invitational Baseball League playoffs begin tonight with top-seeded West Ranch taking on the Spartans in the first round of the 32-team field.

Valencia is the ninth-seed in the playoffs and will open at home against the Braves. Saugus is the No. 10 seed and plays the Gas House Gang at home in the first round.

July 19 2011: Dodgers Lose To Giants 5-3

The Dodgers could not keep up with the Giants Tuesday night as they lose 4 in a row. The Giants scored first with hits by Brandon Belt and Madison Bumgarner which put the Giants up by 2 runs in the 2nd inning. However, the Dodgers would come back and take the lead in the 3rd inning with hits by Tony Gwynn and Rafael Furcal putting the Dodgers up by 1 run. The Giants  would tie the game in the 5th inning with a single by Pablo Sandoval in which Mike Fontenot scored.

League of California Cities Files Lawsuit For Santa Clarita Redevelopment Dollars

locc-logo_copyThe League of California Cities filed a petition with the California Supreme Court to protect nearly $1 million dollars in redevelopment money for the City of Santa Clarita.

At 900 acres, the Old Town Newhall redevelopment area is one of the smallest in the state, however, the city is grateful for the assistance.

“That the League acted so quickly is gratifying,” said City Communications Manager Gail Ortiz.

Reseda Man Drowns In Castaic Lake On Sunday

khts_ambulanceA 28-year old Reseda man drowned in Castaic Lake Sunday evening after water skiing with a group of friends.

According to Sheriff's Park Division Sgt. John Hargraves, the man, who has not been identified pending notification of his family in Mexico, was with a group of five other people who had been picnicking on the shore.

The group had anchored a float about 75 feet from shore so they could tie up their boat.
