Food Pyramid Scheme Abandoned For Plate

myplate_greenThe United States Department of Agriculture has abandoned their pyramid scheme. No, not a con game to sucker investors, but their iconic food pyramid.

The multi-colored pyramid which graced children’s cereal boxes for generations will now give way to MyPlate, a dinner plate icon divided up into colorful sections to signify healthy foods and portion sizes.

Jane Crawford, Director of the Santa Clarita Valley Food Services Agency likes the plate over the pyramid:

Canadians Arrested At Castaic Scales For Cocaine In The Cab

khts_crime_chpTwo Canadians were arrested in Castaic Wednesday afternoon when they were stopped for a cracked windshield by California Highway Patrol officers.

Manoj Kalia, 30, and Majinder Singh, 35, who were in a big rig, were waved into the Castaic Inspection Facility for the windshield offense.

Officers noticed that Singh, the driver, appeared to be impaired or intoxicated.

SC Blue Heat Partners With SCV Food Pantry For Home Game Donations

The Santa Clarita Blue Heat Football Club is partnering with the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry to help the less fortunate of our valley, offering free admission for food donations for four of its season games.

SC Blue Heat is allowing spectators to bring four boxes of macaroni and cheese in place of one admission to the game at special dates listed below.

Hart High Grad Trevor Bauer Wins Pac-10 Pitcher Of The Year Award

khts_sportsHart High graduate and UCLA pitcher Trevor Bauer was selected as the Pac-10 pitcher of the year. He was the first Bruin to win the Pac-10 pitcher of the year award since 1992.

Bauer was also selected as a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award given annually to the best college baseball player in the nation.

Fire Destroys Mobile Home In Vasquez Canyon Park

khts_fireengine5A Saugus man came home from work to find his mobile home destroyed by what authorities suspect was an electrical fire.

According to Lt. Joseph Efflandt of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station, firefighters responded to the call of a fire in the mobile home park in the 16200 block of Vasquez Canyon Road shortly after 4 a.m., where they found the man’s home engulfed in flames.
