Saturday was the day that thousands gathered to Central Park to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer. Relay for Life of the Santa Clarita Valley, held by the American Cancer Society, proved to be a huge success.
With nearly 4,000 in attendance, the American Cancer Society was able to raise approximately $460,000. More than 130 teams registered to participate and of individual participants, 650 were cancer survivors.

The need for surge protection has dramatically increased in recent years due to the rise in the number of home electronics. Computers, printers, telephones, stereos, televisions, small appliances and other multi-media devices are especially susceptible to power surges. 
Assemblyman Cameron Smyth has co-authored a bill that, if passed, would authorize community colleges to offer extension programs of credit courses. Like currently existing law regarding community service classes, the bill would specify that the courses must be self-supporting, open to the public, and developed and conducted in conformance with statutory and regulatory guidelines.
The Santa Clarita City Council, together with families, residents, members of the military and others, will commemorate the dedication of the bridge at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m. on the corner of Golden Valley Road and Valley Center Drive at the south end of the Fallen Warrior Memorial Bridge. The dedication event is free and open to the public.
A small group of committed volunteers has begun to make big changes in the Granada Villa Neighborhood in Canyon Country. Through various programs, the Granada Villa Neighborhood Committee has provided positive opportunities for families and youth that have improved the crime rate in the area. At the close of their first academic year, the committee is being recognized and assisted by members of the City’s executive team.
