UPDATED: Man Dies From Skateboard Crash Injuries

Edward Culhane, the 35-year old skateboarder involved in Saturday's traffic accident has died from massive head injuries suffered in Saturday's accident.

At 2:10 p.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Santa Clarita deputies responded to a skatebaorder who was criticaly injured on Cedarfalls Drive east of Urbandale Drive in Saugus.

New Bill May Offer Extension Courses At Community Colleges

cameronsmythAssemblyman Cameron Smyth has co-authored a bill that, if passed, would authorize community colleges to offer extension programs of credit courses.  Like currently existing law regarding community service classes, the bill would specify that the courses must be self-supporting, open to the public, and developed and conducted in conformance with statutory and regulatory guidelines.




Fallen Warrior Bridge To Be Dedicated Thursday

flagThe Santa Clarita City Council, together with families, residents, members of the military and others, will commemorate the dedication of the bridge at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m. on the corner of Golden Valley Road and Valley Center Drive at the south end of the Fallen Warrior Memorial Bridge.  The dedication event is free and open to the public.

Thousands Gather To Celebrate Cancer Victims And Survivors

5_21_Relay4Life_WD__0205Saturday was the day that thousands gathered to Central Park to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer. Relay for Life of the Santa Clarita Valley, held by the American Cancer Society, proved to be a huge success.

With nearly 4,000 in attendance, the American Cancer Society was able to raise approximately $460,000. More than 130 teams registered to participate and of individual participants, 650 were cancer survivors.

Volunteer Efforts Clean Up Canyon Country Community

800px-Homework_-_vector_mathsA small group of committed volunteers has begun to make big changes in the Granada Villa Neighborhood in Canyon Country.  Through various programs, the Granada Villa Neighborhood Committee has provided positive opportunities for families and youth that have improved the crime rate in the area.  At the close of their first academic year, the committee is being recognized and assisted by members of the City’s executive team.

Small Fire Ignites On COC Hillside

collegefireA small brush fire burned less than an acre of hillside on the Valencia campus of College of the Canyons Tuesday afternoon.

The blaze is said to have been started by a discarded cigarette butt near a trash bin, which spread to some pine trees near the welding shop on campus.


No structures were involved or threatened and the fire was knocked down within a half-hour.
